Hello, my name is Michelle Tegenkamp. I love to run, be outdoors, read, cook and experiment with new recipes. The challenge of doing that with 3 young kids helps me provide many useful tips and tricks for my clients; most of whom are just as busy, I’m sure you can relate!

I have worked as a registered and licensed Dietitian for 16 years. I love working with people in all phases of their wellness to help them utilize food and nutrition in a positive way, helping them to feel their best! As a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics I also specialize in sports nutrition working with athletes of all levels from recreational to high school, college and professional. I believe nutrition is an essential complement to proper training to help athletes improve recovery, avoid injury and illness and enhance their training & performance. I strive to help all my clients build a individualized, ideal and realistic plan that helps achieve their personal goals.

Why I became a Dietitian

Personally I was drawn to nutrition through my own athletic pursuits.  After being a multisport high school athlete I went on to compete in track and field and cross-country at Michigan State University (Go Green!) where I earned distinctions of a 2 time All American, Big Ten Champion, 3 time Academic All American and in 2003 was awarded the George Alderton Female Athlete of the Year award. I also had the honor of represented Canada at 3 World Cross Country Championships. My husband continued to compete in track and field post collegiately becoming, among many other accomplishments, a 2 time Olympian – needless to say nutrition remained a crucial component in our home and day to day lives.

Nutrition Education

I received a B.S. degree in Dietetics and a B.S. degree in Kinesiology at Michigan State University and then went on to complete my Master’s degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I stayed in Madison to complete my dietetic internship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. After several years in the field I pursued my board certification for sports nutrition and earned my CSSD in 2015.

Professionally

I started Active Nutrition LLC 16 years ago while also working Oregon Health and Science University. After switching my focus solely to my private practice in 2013, I started my role of consulting for the Portland Trail Blazers as their team Dietitian in 2014 working with them until 2025. In 2024 I started working with our local NWSL team the Portland Thorns and I also have the pleasure of providing consulting services for the University of Portland’s athletic department as well as speaking regularly to several local high schools and sports clubs.
